Meet Your Trombone Mentor

Hi, I’m Rick Lawrence – a retired instrumental music educator, conductor, and professional trombonist with a lifelong passion for music. I’ve dedicated my career to teaching students of all ages. Teaching others what I have learned over the years has been very rewarding when I see my students progress to higher levels.

My Musical Journey

My trombone story began over 50 years ago when I first picked up the instrument in elementary school. Since then, I have performed with several orchestras, jazz, ensembles, brass bands, and pit orchestras for various shows. Playing the trombone has been and always will be an exciting part of my life.

Teaching Philosophy

Each and every student is unique, and I tailor my lessons to fit your goals, skill, level, and learning style. My approach is supportive and encouraging, while challenging you to push your boundaries and grow as a musician. Above all, I believe learning, the trombone should be an enjoyable, inspiring and rewarding.

Credentials & Experience

I am blessed and fortunate to have studied with four great trombone teachers. John Coffey – Boston Symphony Orchestra, Donald Knaub – University of Texas, Edward J. Madden – Brookline, Mass., Ron Thielman – New Mexico State University. My career includes: Public school music educator, Conductor and Music Director of several community bands and orchestras, Extensive work with beginner, intermediate, and advanced trombonists.
